Department of Philosophy

The Department of Philosophy (Darśana) is very prominent in our college. The subject ‘Philosophy’ as a general was introduced in our college since the beginning of college. However, the subject ‘Philosophy’ as honours has been taught in our college since 2012.

‘Philosophy’/ ‘Darśana’ is the mother of all subjects. This is why the higher degree is given as Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D) in every subject. Our day starts with philosophy, and after that comes other. Philosophy is not only a subject; it is also a life. Hence, it is acquainted as a life-world. It teaches the living beings as: how to live in this restless environment as well as society? How do other human beings live to relate to our life? How to live for life? How to realize the personality of human beings? Philosophy also teaches us to think about others. It is also the study of human nature and the universe. Philosophy is the study of general and fundamental problems and how to solve such problems. This is why the literal meaning of ‘Philosophy’ is “love of wisdom or cognition”. Fellow-feeling attitude arises due to ‘Philosophy’. The term was probably coined by Pythagoras (c. 570 – c. 495 BC). Self-realization is one of the key issues in philosophy.
